During June, we have had some of the warmest weather so far this year with the fish starting and ending their first spawn. Consistent and increasingly higher weights as June went on in our matches. Along with some beasts being caught during plenty of our anglers pleasure sessions!

Lets take a look at what happened on the banks during June!

At the start of June, after much feedback from our anglers, we reduced the use of 3 rods on Holbar during the weekend to help enhance everyone’s days fishing and help with the traffic of swims across the lake. This seemed to help and ensure that each angler setting up for the day weren’t met with awkward and frustrating situations putting their catches safety at risk.

We enjoyed our first ever Junior/Senior pairs match held on Covey 6 with 13 pairs fishing. A great day with lots of sun, bites and catches! After weighing in the results later that day, we had a top duo weight of 110.05 lbs from a father and son duo! This will definitely be a fishing event we will host again!

Looking back over the Spring season of match fishing, we saw that Chris Weeder Snr took the title for Angler of Spring. Having a total of 7 match wins and an overall combined weight of 865.15 lbs!! Great start to the warmer seasons of peak fishing.

We started to see a lot of Carp basking across the lakes during the first couple weeks of June with the warm weather, great to see a lot more activity too with the lakes colour becoming murkier meaning more energy is being used hence the need for more feeding and in turn a lot more catches!

We introduced our second bundle of the year where you could pick up a reduced tackle and bait bundle with your any ticket for the Coveys! Great for the snake style waters that are our match exclusive lakes!
Into the middle of June, we had the pleasure of welcoming Real Education and the Angling Trust to fish with the children of their local schools for fishing tuition! So great to see the juniors on the banks with such keen interest in the sport for the next generation in fishing. All the children loved the day, and some have been back since with the coaches even booking in further days here again in the coming months!

Our 3rd and last Golden Reel qualifier saw us congratulate Lee Thornton as he made it into the final with the best individual weight over the whole of June caught in a match with 245.06 lbs! Hugely impressive!

On one of the hottest days, we had had so far in June, Nel and Todd got hard at work repairing and upkeeping the pegs on Ribbon lake. A full rip out and new pegs made along with repairs on the others. They trooped it through that day!!

Another warm day soon after then, we had another big match qualifier. This time for Fish O Mania! David Shires made it to the final by winning with the top weight of 159.10 lbs on Covey 6!
We then saw the fish stopping their spawning, ready for feeding across the complex! A very happy time for the anglers!

Just as the weather was turning to be a bit drizzlier, we found fishing coach, Andy May out on Covey 3 coaching a father and son duo! Due to the weather being overcast, muggy and a bit drizzly, it was what could be considered the best conditions to fish in! This was enabling a day of bites after bites with this father and son getting the most out of their day on the banks.

Due to the weather changing and water temperature fluctuating as we get to peak summer, it serves to know how these factors can affect the fish and your fishing session. We posted a guide on not only how we can help work with these changes, but each angler fishing can do their part to know how to care for the fish they are catching.

After having such a back log from COVID over the years, the Gold Membership waiting list was at an all time high with not many anglers getting a chance to be a member in time. Since then, we have worked hard at getting it down to only a few weeks. This was a great announcement with many anglers being interested in what has been difficult to be a part of for so long.

We have had many consistent catches coming from Holbar over the month of June along with top match weights! Overall, amazing days fishing from both match and pleasure styles.

• Chris Weeder Snr – Covey 6, peg 146 = 211.14 lbs
• Lee Thornton – Covey 1, peg 18 for Golden Reel = 245.06 lbs
• Harry Campbell – Covey 6, peg 146 = 210.11 lbs
• Kieran Rich – Willow, peg 9 = 133.07 lbs
• Lee Ganderton – Spey, peg 21 = 129.15 lbs
• David Shires – Covey 6, peg 146 for Fish O Mania = 159.10 lbs

To finish off June with a bang, we congratulated one of our Junior anglers – Harry Campbell for winning top Angler of June with 6 match wins across the month! One to watch out for for sure as not one of his match weights went below 100 lbs.

We are excited for the upcoming events, fishing experiences and long nights on the banks as we go into peak summer! Plenty of bites to be had and new tactics for exciting sessions, both match and pleasure! Tight Lines all!
